Global Grant Scholarship Presentation

When people hear “Global Grant Scholarship” they immediately focus on “scholarship,” but the operative words are “Global Grant.”  Global Grant Scholarships are available to any Masters Level or above candidate.  Even though they may attend a college or university elsewhere, a candidate’s primary home residence must be located within the nine counties of District 7305.  Additionally, scholarships are only offered for students who are studying outside the United States and its territories.  The minimum amount of any global grant is $30 thousand dollars.  At the present time, there is no maximum amount applied.  One recent scholar was awarded $120 thousand dollars for a course of study in Australia.

What is the difference between a Global Grant and a Global Grant Scholarship?  With other global grants, the area of the world where assistance is given represents the project to be funded.  In the case of the scholarships offered under this program, the student and the course of study is the project.  There is an interview process involved at the district level.  During the Fall of any given year, the application process begins with identified students completing an initial application.  Students are interviewed by members of the District Foundation Committee.  Once the student’s eligibility has been determined and the application process has been completed at the district level, all of the information is submitted to Rotary International for final approval.  That approval comes in the following Spring with studies set to begin in the Fall of the next year.  For instance, candidates being interviewed in the Fall of 2023 will not start their studies until the Fall of 2024.

How does one get from wanting to study to obtaining a Global Grants Scholarship? The referral can come from any parent, counselor, or friend through any Rotarian in the district.  Once identified, the application and interview process are set in motion.  Students have these major requirements:

The student’s course of study must be at the college post graduate level.

The course of study must be rooted in one of the Areas of Focus identified through Rotary International.

The student must have both a sponsoring Home Club in District 7305 and a sponsoring club in the district where they will be studying and living for the duration of the program.

The student must be a resident of one of the counties encompassed by District 7305

Finally, the student can NOT be related to a Rotarian (includes children, grandchildren, and extended family).

Remember, this is at practically no cost to the student.  Global Grants Scholarships are funded from endowments which have been created by Rotarians and former Rotarians in District 7305.  Also, the student will receive continued support from the Global Grants Scholarship committee and Rotarians in both districts.  At home, the committee members will assist the students in every step of the application process.  Onsite, the students will be included in activities within the sponsoring club and will be given educational and cultural experiences that only “hands on” participation provides.

The following materials are available to educate the club members as well as potential Global Grant Scholarship candidates:
